“Perception; a take on our surroundings"
A big thank you to Jessica, the art pastor and Houston Vineyard that showed interest in my art and asked if I wanted to have a show in their fantastic location.
I think this location is perfect for My art.
Life happens here.
When you walk the streets of the Heights you will see a lot of the aspects that I’m trying to create awareness around.
And Houston Vineyard is a church that is working hard to try to help people and make a difference in the world.
I want to say a few words about how I work when I make my paintings.
I find themes within society when I make my art.
I basically work with words so I will spend some time collecting words around the theme that I want to build awareness around.
My goal for my art is to build awareness of difficult things that are happening around us. When I can get a discussion or even just some questions regarding my art I feel I have succeeded.
As you can see many of the pieces have bright happy colors and I’m using color as a sign of optimism.
I believe that we can make a difference for the better.
And I believe that this is one way I can contribute to that matter.
I use symbols in my pieces to emphasize my point of view.
Some symbols are my own symbols not necessarily known symbols but I believe that in the Bigger Context it all gives meaning.
I also know that a single word can be so powerful. And that the same word can have a different meaning for different people.
I experience that a lot when I have shows, that my viewers can have a totally opposite take on the printed words. This I find very fulfilling and I think it gives purpose.
In this show my subject mattes are the homeless and veterans,
school shootings,
border politics,
the distress on the world,
hard workers
and the political situation in the USA.
I’m trying to be objective, but sometimes I believe I am in my right to give my opinion.
I do though after I have collected words about the subject matter, and added them I kind of add a conclusion on top or a question that is necessary to ask.
I hope you all will enjoy the exhibition, and please if you have any questions or thoughts I will try to be accommodating.
